Date: May 25, 2005
About this cartoon: President George W. Bush steadfastly refused to consider stem cell research if it involved embryonic cells, which offered the greatest promise for major advances in treating a variety of ailments, supporting only specific and limited research; he cited not wanting to "take lives to save lives."

Date: Nov. 9, 2004
About this cartoon: California passed a landmark ballot measure, Proposition 71, to fund stem cell research at a tune of $3 to $6 billion, partly to grow a biotech industry in the state, and partly to show the state's contempt for President Bush's firm opposition to embryonic stem-cell research.

Date: July 23, 2006
About this cartoon: President Bush issued his first veto, going against a majority of Americans and many in his own party by refusing to allow the government any role in embryonic stem cell research, a move that might've cost the Republicans in November.

Date: March 19, 2009
About this cartoon: President Obama lifted the ban by George W. Bush on scientific reasearch involving embyonic stem cells. These cells offer the greatest promise for potentially finding cures for Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, juvenile diabetes, spinal cord injuries and a host of other conditions, but religious objections, equating such research to abortion, kept those cells — and those potential cures — off limits for eight years.
